About this place
At Toriyu Honten, part of the fun is choosing from the grilled skewers on display, dipping them in sauce yourself and eating them on the spot. Ask a member of staff for a small plate; you pay according to how many skewers you finish, making it easy to stop by for just a few.
The menu includes young chicken, chicken with spring onion, liver, chicken meatballs, chicken skin, cartilage and gizzard, as well as eel and a mixed skewer. Some diners recommend the mixed skewer and eel for a change from the usual yakitori. One review singles out the liver, while another describes the sauce as rich, sweet and savoury, and a good match for the young chicken. Once you have chosen your skewers, dipping one in the sauce is a good place to start.
You can eat standing at the counter or take your food away. Beer and other alcoholic drinks are available, so you can snack on skewers there over lunch or take some home to serve with rice.
